Maria de la Luz Garcia

Senior Program Officer, Public Policy and Strategic Partnerships

Maria de la Luz Garcia oversees Trauma Prevention Partnerships, Community Economic Resilience Fund, and the LA n Sync Initiative–a civic initiative that utilizes public-private partnerships to spur innovation and attract funding to address the critical needs of Los Angeles County.

Garcia has a passion for and experience in developing and implementing civic engagement programs for the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. Most recently, she served as the Director of the Census 2020 Initiative for the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti where she worked collaboratively with a diverse coalition of community stakeholders to build a countywide Census 2020 outreach and education effort targeting historically undercounted communities. Prior to serving in this position, she served as the City Clerk for the City of Long Beach where she introduced a mock student election program and consolidated the City’s June 2016 Runoff Election with the Statewide Primary Election, which resulted in historic voter turnout levels.

Her interest and enthusiasm for civic engagement arose from her experience mobilizing low-propensity Latino voters while at NALEO Educational Fund and leading outreach and education efforts for the City of Los Angeles City Clerk-Election Division.

Garcia received a master’s degree in Public Administration from USC Price School of Public Policy and her bachelor’s degree from Vassar College.
