Maui Fire Relief Resources

On August 8, a devastating fire quickly spread in western Maui, taking many residents by surprise. Thousands have been forced to flee their homes and over 270 building structures were damaged or destroyed, including in the historic town of Lahaina. Maui County officials have reported over 50 deaths with dozens more injured. The President has declared a national emergency to expand federal aid to support the community.

Three fires remain active on Maui as of the evening of Thursday, August 10th.

How to Help

As the island undergoes recovery efforts, the following organizations are actively involved in providing immediate relief, assistance, and essential services to community members:

  • Hawaii Community Foundation has activated the Maui Strong Fund to provide flexible, quickly deployed resources to Maui residents impacted by the fires. The Fund was created to build community resiliency with resources for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Maui Food Bank is Maui County’s primary safety net for hunger relief. They are collecting and distributing food and supplies to those in need through their community partnerships.
  • American Red Cross disaster workers are on the ground in Maui and have opened 10 shelters to house the thousands of residents and tourists displaced by the fires. Working in partnership with officials, they are providing evacuees with a safe place to stay as well as food.

CCF fundholders who wish to support these efforts through their donor advised fund may make grants directly on DonorConnect. For any donor inquiries, please contact your Relationship Manager or email DonorRelations@calfund.org.
