Dawn Kasper

Dawn KasperArtist’s Statement

My work addresses relentless obsessive fascinations with topics such as, connectivity, desire, process, and meaning. I perform in a calculated yet spontaneous manner, using props to punctuate my actions.

Organizationally structured after chapters in a book or a photographic series I work systematically and serially. Comprised of performance, photography, collage, sculpture, drawing, sound and installation. With umbrella titles such as, On The Exposure of Process A Nomadic Studio Practice Experiment, Visual Poems Studies in Time and Space, Private Performances For People In Their Homes, The On Series, The Evil Series, and Clues To The Meaning of Life.

Developing a utilitarian space for living sculpture and durational performance, doubling as a platform for collaboration. I transform the space through the use of props and personas. Everything is in play and everything is in flux. The environments I perform in provide the forum, an open-‐air laboratory of thought. Often ritualizing my performance environments with color lighting, scent and sound. Performative action that crescendos into a monologue or story culminating into a sculptural installation environment illustrating my findings on being and process that thus expose a caricature of artistic practice to the audience. The results are open, magical, spontaneous and food for thought.
