Sherin Guirguis

Sherin GuirguisArtist’s Statement

My work engages both formal and social concerns by incorporating the reductive Western language of minimalist aesthetics with that of Eastern Arabic ornamentation.

Raised in Cairo and currently residing in Los Angeles, my interests lie in the cultural navigation of these two worlds. The work exists on the edge between the reductive and the ornamental, the contemporary and the traditional, the flat and the three-dimensional, the structured and the informal, the public and the private and finally the Eastern and the Western.
